50 mm aperture for deep sky
The heart of the Seestar S50 Pro is the 50 mm aperture optical system. The larger light-gathering surface allows for more effective capture of faint structures in nebulae, galaxies, and other deep-sky objects: compared to a 30 mm aperture, the light-gathering area is nearly triple.
ZWO pairs the 50 mm aperture with a 260 mm focal length, offering a good balance between field of view, detail, and portability. The declared theoretical resolving power is approximately 2.76 arcseconds.
Quadruplet apochromatic optic with ED glass
The Seestar S50 Pro uses a four-element (quadruplet) apochromatic optical system that includes Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass. The design is engineered to reduce chromatic aberration and produce sharper, more pinpoint stars, controlling color fringing and delivering neutral, clean blacks.
The high-quality anti-reflective coating further reduces light loss, while the folded optical path keeps dimensions compact despite the 260 mm telephoto focal length.
Integrated dew heater
The Seestar S50 Pro includes an anti-condensation heating system that keeps the front lens free from fogging.
This is a crucial feature for humid nights or long sessions: without anti-dew, moisture formation on the optics interrupts acquisition and ruins shots after just a few hours. With the integrated heater, no external dew straps or extra power supplies are needed.
Dual 4K camera system
The Seestar S50 Pro uses two distinct shooting systems: a telephoto camera primarily dedicated to astrophotography and a wide-angle camera for the Milky Way, star fields, Star Trails, landscapes, and daytime photography.
Telephoto camera
- 1/1.2" Sony IMX585 color sensor.
- 8.3 MP resolution.
- 4K resolution 2160 × 3840.
- 2.9 µm pixels.
- Field of view of approximately 2.8° in portrait orientation.
- 50 mm aperture.
- 260 mm focal length.
- f/5.2 focal ratio.
- Declared equivalent focal length 880 mm.
- Working distance from approximately 15 m to infinity.
Wide-angle camera
- 1/2" sensor.
- 8.3 MP resolution.
- 4K resolution 2160 × 3840.

- Field of view of approximately 63°.
- 6 mm f/1.75 lens (3.4 mm aperture).
- Declared equivalent focal length 35 mm.
- Working distance from approximately 0.1 m to infinity.
At 1× magnification, both cameras can record images at 4K 3840 × 2160 resolution, while the live preview is displayed at 1080p. The resolution decreases at 2× and 4× zoom.
Triple astronomical filter system
The Seestar S50 Pro integrates several filters to adapt to various acquisition modes.
- UV/IR-Cut available on the telephoto and wide-angle cameras.
- Dual-Band light pollution filter on the telephoto camera.
- 30 nm OIII band.
- 20 nm Hα band.
- Dark Frame Filter dedicated to the telephoto camera.
- External magnetic solar filter for solar observation and photography.
The Dual-Band filter helps reduce interference caused by light pollution and moonlight during emission nebula photography. This is exactly what makes the Seestar interesting for those living in the city and observing from a home balcony.
Fully automatic GoTo, autofocus, and tracking
The Seestar system is designed to automate the operations normally required by a traditional astrophotography setup. Thanks to integrated sensors, star maps, and the smartphone's GPS, the Seestar handles alignment and calibration on the night sky by itself.
From the app, you can select a celestial object—even from the "Tonight's Best" suggestion list—and launch the automatic GoTo. The telescope then manages centering, focusing, tracking, and acquisition, allowing even those new to astrophotography to get started quickly.
The integrated catalog includes over 4,000 objects, including stars and deep-sky subjects, with detailed info cards and tools to plan your observing evening.
Automatic DSO Mosaic up to 8K
The DSO Mosaic Stitching function allows the Seestar S50 Pro to automatically capture multiple adjacent areas of the sky and combine them into a larger final image.
This overcomes the field-of-view limits of the telephoto lens, allowing you to photograph nebulae or very large celestial regions while maintaining the detail of the 260 mm optics. The stitching engine, optimized for the Pro version, converts 4K images into composites up to 8K.
Panoramic Milky Way in 8K
The wide-angle camera allows you to create Milky Way panoramas using horizontal or vertical automatic stitching systems.
This mode allows you to create wide-field compositions up to 8K without having to manually plan and join individual panels. The same mode also manages Milky Way time-lapse and wide-angle live stacking, which improves wide-field image quality in real-time.
Foreground Freeze
For astronomical landscape photography, the Seestar S50 Pro can process the sky and the foreground separately. The system keeps the landscape still while following the movement of the stars, then combines the data to obtain sharp stars and a crisp terrestrial landscape. The duration of the foreground lock is customizable.
Star Trail and Time-Lapse
The Seestar S50 Pro allows you to automatically create Star Trails and night sky Time-Lapse sequences. Long sequences can be turned into videos that show the apparent motion of the sky during the night.
Constellation recognition
The app allows you to identify and display constellation lines and names. Once the desired region is identified, you can use the GoTo system to automatically point the telescope.
Smart Enhancement and integrated processing
The Seestar software integrates automatic post-production tools designed to quickly obtain an image ready for viewing and sharing.
- Noise Reduction.
- Star Reduction to decrease the apparent size of stars.
- Star Removal to get a starless version of the image.
- Brightness, contrast, and saturation adjustments.
- Crop and frame refinement.
Smart Enhancement works on data actually acquired by the telescope and does not artificially generate astronomical objects in the image: all images are authentic captures, without AI-created content.
Plan Mode for automatic sessions
With Plan Mode, you can prepare an imaging session and let Seestar automatically perform the planned operations throughout the night.
The system can also handle multi-target acquisitions, automatically switching from one celestial object to the next based on the set plan.
Equatorial mode and exposures up to 60 seconds
In addition to standard alt-azimuth operation, the Seestar S50 Pro supports equatorial mode using a specific configuration and accessories, such as the dedicated tilting head.
In equatorial mode with accurate polar alignment, the system supports exposures of up to 60 seconds. 60-second exposures are not available during standard alt-azimuth operation.
Astronomical photometry
The Pro version supports calibrated photometric measurements: a feature that goes beyond mere aesthetic astrophotography and opens up scientific work.
It allows you to follow the light curve of variable stars and contribute to the search and reporting of potential novae, making the Seestar S50 Pro a tool also suitable for advanced amateur astronomy and education.
New carbon fiber tripod
The Seestar S50 Pro comes with an upgraded carbon fiber tripod, featuring two sections and two different leg opening angles, designed to increase versatility and stability on different types of terrain.
- Material: carbon fiber.
- Adjustable height from 16 to 37 cm.
- Weight: 0.59 kg.
- Telescope base mount: 3/8"-16, compatible with standard photographic tripods.
AI Assistant
The AI Assistant integrated into the Seestar ecosystem can provide assistance during observation and help in searching for subjects. Through simple commands, you can locate a celestial object and start the related GoTo and acquisition functions.
Telescope Network and remote control
The Telescope Network function allows remote access to compatible Seestar telescopes, controlling acquisition sessions, monitoring status, sharing access to the device, and exporting images at the end of the session.
The availability and conditions of the remote service may depend on the app version, region, and Seestar service status.

- 1.6 µm pixels.
ASCOM Alpaca and N.I.N.A. compatibility
The Seestar S50 Pro supports the open ASCOM Alpaca protocol, expanding integration possibilities with compatible third-party astronomical software, including N.I.N.A., for automated observation and advanced imaging workflows.
Moon, Sun, and daytime photography
Beyond the deep sky, the Seestar S50 Pro can be used to photograph the Moon, sunspots, and astronomical events such as eclipses.
For solar observation, it is essential to always use the provided magnetic solar filter. Never point at the Sun directly without the filter correctly installed.
During the day, the telephoto system can also be used for birdwatching, nature photography, distant landscapes, and other terrestrial subjects.
128 GB internal storage
The telescope integrates 128 GB of eMMC memory. Due to the space used by the operating system and internal files, ZWO indicates approximately 100 GB actually available for the user.
Photographs can be saved in JPEG and FITS formats, while videos are available in MP4 and AVI formats.
10,000 mAh battery
The integrated battery has a capacity of 10,000 mAh (CH-21700-1S2P 3.6V pack) and can reach a declared autonomy of up to 9 hours under ZWO's specified test conditions.
For longer sessions, you can connect an external power bank via USB-C. Actual battery life may vary depending on ambient temperature, mode used, system activity, and operating conditions.
