[Used] Celestron 0.7x Reducer for 8" EDGE HD

The new Celestron focal reducer for the 8-inch EdgeHD telescope uses a custom 4-element optical design engineered to maintain the flat field of the EdgeHD optical system. Unlike generic focal reducers, this reducer offers a very generous back focus, capable of accommodating various thick optical accessories intended for imaging. All EdgeHD focal reducers use high-refractive-index, low-dispersion glass, and exotic lanthanum glass elements, which provide high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration. All air-to-glass lens surfaces feature anti-reflective coating layers to maximize light transmission and color correction; furthermore, the lens edges are blackened to minimize internal reflection and maximize image contrast. The metal housing containing the lenses has been calculated and manufactured with CNC machinery using bar aluminum, achieving very precise spacing, alignment, and centering of the optical elements. The reducer also comes with threaded metal caps to protect the lenses from dust and scratches. The 4-element optical system has been specifically designed for the Edge HD 800 telescope to maintain a flat field and point-like stars up to the edge of the photographic field. It maintains the same system back focus (105 mm) used at the f/10 focal ratio. Unlike generic reducers, the EdgeHD 0.7x reducer provides a generous back focus to accommodate accessories and a wide range of CCD cameras. It also allows the use of existing T-Adapters for EdgeHD and other Celestron imaging accessories. Using the reducer allows for a gain of a full aperture stop compared to the f/10 system: It reduces exposure time by half to capture objects of the same brightness. It also increases the field of view by 43%: This allows for capturing wider field images, making it possible to photograph galaxies and nebulae with large angular extensions in a single shot. It uses lanthanum and "rare earth" glass to achieve sharp, high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration. All air-to-glass lens surfaces are multi-coated to provide maximum light transmission and perfect color correction, and feature blackened edges to minimize internal reflection and maximize contrast. The EdgeHD reducer screws directly onto the rear 2" threaded port of the Edge HD 800 optical tube. Using such a large diameter reduces mechanical vignetting and allows the telescope to be used with APS-C format CCD/CMOS sensors and off-axis guiders. Requires a specific photographic adapter for the EdgeHD 800. Note: it is not optically compatible with the "standard" C8 nor with other SC or Cassegrain telescopes.
