Skywatcher EQ8-R Mount - HEAD + counterweights

Sky-Watcher presents the new flagship of equatorial mounts, the EQ8-R SynScan.

Engineers have worked intensively to meet modern connectivity needs, so the solution was found by implementing all types of connectors used today by amateur astronomers and professionals into the electronics. There are 4 powered USB 3.0 ports, 4, 6, and 8-pin RJ ports, 3 auxiliary power inputs, a USB-B 3.0 socket, and the classic, effective Sky-Watcher SynScan pointing system with the new version 5 hand controller. Mechanically, the periodic error of the Sky-Watcher EQ8-R has been reduced to minimal levels, and the ergonomic and balanced design that already characterized the EQ8 mount has been further improved. The 50kg load capacity is further confirmation of how high-quality and reliable the mechanics are. The intermediate transmission (between motor and worm gear) via toothed belts on both axes ensures maximum tracking and pointing performance, as well as unprecedented quietness. Also included in the package are two 10kg counterweights.

The alignment and pointing system SynScan, included in the new version 5 hand controller, allows for complete control of the mount's functions, including pointing to over 42,000 celestial objects, assisted polar alignment, permanent periodic error correction, parking position, etc.

The EQ8-R mount is not equipped with encoders; however, there is an index on the RA crown through which the control board detects its position. This allows, for example, for permanent periodic error correction to be performed.

The EQ8-R is obviously compatible with the SynScan WiFi module and the SynScan App Pro.

Connectivity

The 4-port USB 3.0 hub located under the declination axis was specifically designed for connecting USB devices attached to the optical tube, such as an imaging camera, electronic focuser, dew heater strips, and filter wheel.

This 4-port USB hub is connected directly to the USB 3.0 type B input (blue color, next to the AUX 1, 2, and 3 ports) just below the RA axis. Users who want to control the peripherals connected to the 4 USB 3.0 ports from a PC must use this USB 3.0 type B connector to connect the mount directly to the PC.

For direct control of the mount from a PC with the SynScan app for Windows or third-party applications (EQMOD, TheSkyX, KStars, INDI, etc.), simply connect the mount to the PC using the USB 2.0 type B input (white) located next to the hand controller input. This USB port connects the motor controller directly to the PC.

The AUX 1, 2, and 3 ports located under the RA axis connect directly to the AUX 1, 2, and 3 ports located under the DEC axis. Users can decide how to use these ports. It is recommended to use the 6-pin RJ-12 ports for autoguider connection.

To prevent electrical faults, it is necessary to connect the telescope/mount to a certified "grounding" system that complies with legal standards. The absence of grounding will, in the event of an electrical failure (not attributable to manufacturing defects), result in the invalidation of the product warranty.
