Technical data sheet
Hubble Optics Dobsonian Telescope N 457/1860 UL18 f/4 Premium Ultra Light DOB
A high-quality telescope with large aperture and a lightweight, compact design that has been optimized for extreme portability!
The UL18 offers such an aperture that it provides even the most demanding observers with a satisfying view. Despite its size, it can be easily transported to the desired observation site by a single person. The Hubble Optics UL18 not only offers a first-class optical experience but also weighs only about 32 kilograms - about a third of the weight of a classic Dobsonian telescope. Once disassembled, it takes on a compact shape and fits into any car.
The UL18 is the ideal combination of a telescope with huge light-gathering capacity and a unique, lightweight design. It will be the telescope that gets pulled out of the garage or the back of the car to be used frequently. You will enjoy breathtaking images of our universe and the pleasure of observing for a lifetime.
The UL18 has a parabolic primary mirror with an 18" diameter for a total diameter of 18.4". This gives you about 5% more optical surface than 18" instruments from other manufacturers. In addition to the fast focal ratio, the Hubble UL18 has an eyepiece position that can almost always be reached while standing (approximately 172 cm from the ground when the UL18 is pointed at the zenith).
The Hubble UL18 is a telescope that will give you a lifetime of observation experiences you will be satisfied with.
There are two versions with different focal ratios: f/4 and f/4.5
Advantages of f/4.5:
- Sharper images. No coma corrector needed!
- Smaller central obstruction
- Easier to set perfect collimation
Advantages of f/4:
- Most users will not need a ladder with this telescope, whereas with the f/4.5 version, you might need a one-step ladder only if the telescope is pointed near the zenith.
- Wider field of view
Both the f/4 and f/4.5 versions offer excellent images. The f/4.5 focal ratio provides optimal optics for the most demanding observer - without the need for a coma corrector. A coma corrector is highly recommended for the UL18 f/4.
Please note that the f/4.5 version requires a counterweight, NOT included in the shipment.
Special features:
- Exclusive Sandwich Mirror Technology: Hubble Optics' Sandwich Mirror technology has been used to produce scientific-grade optical elements, and after more than six years of successful applications in research facilities like NASA, the California State Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo, for the US military, and in amateur astronomy worldwide, it has proven itself a winner. The folding telescope design, with an open body and a closed back, not only allows air to circulate at the mirror level but also provides maximum strength, allowing for a simpler mirror cell design. But why is thermal balance so crucial? The main problem is "mirror seeing," the turbulence seen through the telescope's eyepiece when the air above the mirror is at a different temperature than the mirror itself. Because a sandwich mirror cools down much faster than a solid mirror of the same thickness, this major source of distortion is quickly eliminated, providing sharp and stable viewing conditions.
- Semi-Enhanced Optical Coating: The 92% enhanced optical coating ensures that the primary mirror collects as many photons as possible (scattering as few as possible) to produce a bright and re
