Technical data sheet
Howie Glatter Barlowed Collimation Plug
Howie Glatter Blug – The accessory for comfortable collimation.
Blug stands for "barlowed collimation plug." The Blug is a 45° wedge that makes the retro-reflected laser mark and concentric circles visible on both the primary and secondary mirrors. A Barlow lens is integrated inside the "Blug" and features a multi-layer anti-reflective coating. The "Blug" is available in two sizes: 1.25" and 2".
What the "Blug" does
With truss-tube Dobsonians, the image of the Blug’s 45° wedge is clearly visible on the primary mirror during collimation. By observing the shadow of the concentric circles and the center mark, the mirrors can be adjusted along the optical axis. For solid-tube telescopes, the "Blug" must be rotated 180° outward to view the images, and you will need to observe the image from slightly further away during collimation. In those cases, we recommend the "tuBlug".
