Astronomik H-alpha 12 nm CCD Filter for Sony Alpha Clip
A quick guide to help you choose:
- As a first filter, we recommend the Astronomik CLS, which suppresses most light pollution and natural airglow. The result will be skies with a dark background, allowing for longer exposure times, which makes even the faintest objects visible. The filter is optimized to display objects in natural colors. Important: the standard CLS filter does not have an integrated IR block. Therefore, for a converted ("astro-modified") camera, a CLS-CCD filter is necessary!
- A good choice for activities in locations with very strong light pollution is the Astronomik UHC filter. The transmission curve of this filter allows only light in the H-beta, OIII, H-alpha, and SII lines to pass through. Background brightness suppression is significantly greater than with a CLS; however, this filter only works for gaseous nebulae! Star clusters and galaxies are mostly filtered out.
- For in-depth astrophotography, we recommend narrowband filters for OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission lines, available with an FWHM of 6 nm or 12 nm. These filters allow you to take truly deep photos of faint objects even from locations with intense light pollution and a full moon high in the sky. Shots in these narrow wavelengths do not have natural colors.
- For owners of converted ("astro-modified") cameras, we suggest the Astronomik OWB filter: the acronym OWB stands for "Original White Balance." The filter converts the spectrum of a modified camera so that it can also be used for daytime photography without having to reprocess every image.
