Technical data sheet
Celestron CGEM II 925 EDGE HD
The Edge HD 925 telescope utilizes diffraction-limited aplanatic Edge HD Schmidt-Cassegrain optics. The Edge HD optical system combines the widely popular compactness of Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes with new high-definition optics that allow for wide-field imaging with the quality typical of astrographs.
When used for visual observation, Edge HD optics provide pinpoint stellar images right to the edge, even with 2-inch ultra-wide-angle eyepieces. When used for astroimaging, Edge HD optics produce aberration-free images across the entire field covered by CCD or DSLR cameras, even with Full Frame formats.
All Edge HD optics are designed to produce a very flat focal plane, generating perfectly focused stellar images up to the extreme edge of the sensor. The Edge HD 925 is suitable for both visual and photographic use and is designed to be modular, capable of working optimally within focal length ranges between 470 and 10000 mm (with optional accessories, including those from third parties). The XLT optical coating enhances the brightness of the optics, also offering very high contrast on both planets and deep-sky objects.
Edge HD telescopes are also pre-configured for the Fastar/Hyperstar system and are equipped with a primary mirror locking system and micro-filtered side vents to speed up the process of reaching thermal equilibrium. The kit includes high-quality accessories: a 9x50mm finder scope, a 2-inch Luminos 23mm ultrawide eyepiece, a 2-inch diameter diagonal, and a dovetail bar for CGE/Losmandy/NEQ6.
FEATURES Optical Design Aplanatic Edge HD Schmidt-Cassegrain Aperture 235 mm Focal Length 2350 mm Focal Ratio f/10 Obstruction 0.35 Light gathering 1127x (naked eye=1) Coating Starbright XLT Focusing Via primary mirror shift Fastar Compatibility Yes Tube Material Aluminum Notes mirror lock via 2 knobs, primary ventilation grilles OTA Length 559 mm Weight 9.53 Kg
Born as an upgrade to the famous CGEM model, the CGEM II has an attractive, bold, and modern look and is capable of supporting Celestron SCT optical tubes up to 11” securely and without any vibration, making it ideal for both imaging and visual observation. The 18kg payload capacity and a slew speed of 5° per second allow for immediate pointing to any of the 40,000 objects (+100 user-programmable objects) present in the hand controller database.
New, more ergonomic and durable knobs, a new dovetail bar (Vixen and Losmandy), functional improvements such as graduated markings on the tripod, the geometry of azimuth and altitude adjustment, and the intelligent layout of internal cables—in addition to decisive mechanical improvements to the motors (equipped with optical encoders), gears, and ball bearings—allow for easy, fast, precise, and secure alignment and tracking procedures. The ability to perform daytime pointing of the Sun, Moon, and planets, correct periodic error, and perform precise polar alignments to within a second of arc even without necessarily seeing the North Star is certainly a must-have you won't be able to do without.
The new hand controllers equipped with a USB port allow for efficient computer connections (via ASCOM protocol) and are within reach of anyone who wants to control and align their telescope using their PC and the NexRemote software (included). In addition to the over 40,000 objects already stored in the hand controller, another 100 can be added at the user's discretion and customization.
