Celestron CGEM II 800 EDGE HD

The Edge HD 800 utilizes aplanatic Edge HD Schmidt-Cassegrain optics corrected to the diffraction limit. The Edge HD optical system combines the popular compactness of Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes with newly designed high-definition optics that allow for wide-field images with the quality typical of astrographs. When used visually, Edge HD optics provide pinpoint stellar images right to the edge, even with 2-inch ultra-wide-angle eyepieces.

When used for astroimaging, Edge HD optics produce aberration-free images across the entire field captured by CCD or DSLR cameras, even with Full Frame formats. All Edge HD optics have been designed to produce a very flat focal plane, generating perfectly focused stellar images up to the extreme edge of the sensor. The C8 Edge HD is suitable for both visual and photographic use and was designed to be modular, capable of working optimally within a focal length range between 400 and 8000 mm (with optional accessories, including those from third-party manufacturers). The XLT optical coating enhances light transmission, also offering very high contrast on both planets and deep-sky objects.

Edge HD telescopes are also Fastar-compatible and are equipped with a primary mirror clutch system and micro-filtered side vents to speed up the process of reaching thermal equilibrium. The package includes several quality accessories: a 9x50mm finderscope, a 40mm Plössl eyepiece, a 31.8 mm diameter diagonal, and a dovetail bar for CGE/Losmandy/NEQ6.

Created as an update to the famous CGEM model, the CGEM II features an attractive, bold, and modern look and is capable of securely supporting Celestron SCT optical tubes up to 11” without any vibration, making it ideal for both imaging and visual observation. The 18kg load capacity and the 5° per second slew speed will allow you to instantly point to any of the 40,000 objects (+100 user-programmable objects) present in the hand controller database.

The new, more ergonomic and durable knobs, the new dual dovetail bar (Vixen and Losmandy), functional improvements such as graduated markings on the tripod, the geometry of the azimuth and altitude adjustment, and the intelligent layout of internal cables, as well as several decisive mechanical improvements to the motors (equipped with optical encoders), gears, and ball bearings, will allow for easy, fast, precise, and secure alignment and tracking procedures. The ability to perform daytime pointing of the Sun, Moon, and planets, to correct periodic error, and to perform precise polar alignments down to the arcsecond without necessarily seeing the Pole Star are certainly must-haves that you will not be able to live without. The new hand controllers equipped with a USB port will allow for efficient computer connections (via ASCOM protocol) accessible to anyone who wants to control and align their telescope using their PC and the included NexRemote software. To the more than 40,000 objects already stored in the hand controller, an additional 100 can be added at the user's discretion and personalization.
