Technical data sheet
ANTLIA LARGE OFF-AXIS GUIDER WITH FILTER DRAWER
The Antlia Large Off-Axis Guider is an innovative accessory that integrates a filter drawer into an off-axis guider (OAG). It allows you to use the guiding camera at the telescope's prime focus, thereby avoiding heavy guide scopes and achieving much more precise autoguiding!
The off-axis guider uses an internal prism to intercept a small portion of the light arriving from the telescope and reflects it onto a guide camera. Since the guide camera and imaging camera use the same focal length as the main telescope, the guiding will be more precise and will not suffer from the flexure typical of an external guide scope.
Features of the Large Off-Axis Guider with filter drawer
- Large 12x12mm prism that allows the use of guide cameras with larger sensors, thus providing a wider selection of guide stars
- The off-axis guider and filter drawer are machined from a single block of aluminum, ensuring no flexure even with heavy cameras
- The large aperture of the OAG allows for the use of APS-C and Full Frame sensors without vignetting
- Thickness of 37.5mm with additional adapters
- The high-quality helical focuser has 10mm of travel to find the optimal focus point for the guide camera
- The prism height can be adjusted to find the best position for the guide camera without vignetting the main sensor (lower the prism for a small sensor, raise the prism for a large sensor)
- The threaded adapters are secured to the off-axis guider with 3 screws and can rotate 360°; this way, the rear one can be rotated to position the long side of the sensor towards the prism, and the front one can be adjusted to straighten the camera or to search for a bright guide star
- The OAG comes with 7 male and female attachments to connect it to any configuration: M68, M54, M48 and M42 male and female, and M42 male only.
- The filter drawer has an M48 x 0.75mm thread (50.3 or 50x50 slider sold separately); B-48125, B-4836, and B-4831 adapters can be purchased separately.
To find focus on the guide camera, you must take into account the distance of the imaging camera from the prism; the same distance will exist from the prism to the guide camera.
If the imaging camera is too close to the OAG, the guide camera's focus might be too far inward.
